The Qeros are direct descendants of the Incas, and thank you to their foresight, they remained high in the Andes Mountains, out of reach of destruction or interference, waiting patiently for the signs while they continued to live in an ancient way. The melting of the Glaciers showed when it was time for their sacred arts to ripple out across the world. Supporting Westerners and humanity to remember our deep connection with the Earth and the cosmos, to raise consciousness and share the incredible wisdom of the Incas.
Below are excerpts from an interview with my amazing teacher Juan, a worldwide Inca expert/Anthropologist AND Altomesayoq- (an initiated Paqo -Qero Shaman), who shares his insight from the last 40 years of his experience and research. Together with his son Ivan, I received my initiation as Teqse Paqo, travelled with them in Peru and have learnt for many years through him, and his lineage of Qero teachers.
This blog will give you the opportunity to learn some background to why- & what I teach and facilitate regarding these incredible Andean sacred arts. It is long, but gives you a good foundation to understanding the path.
Article: The Inka – the worldview of an ancient culture:
The Inca are an indigenous culture in the Andes of Peru. This advanced civilization was more advanced than the Roman Empire or other recent civilizations. Simplicity characterizes the practical spiritual exercises. In addition to a differentiated level system of human development, the Incas also view the current time as a time of change.
Question: From your point of view, what is the Inca tradition? What makes it unlike other indigenous traditions?
Juan: The Incas were the last branch of a long evolutionary process in the Andean region. This civilization originated about 3.300 BC. The first pre-Andean civilization was called Chiripa, the second Chavín, and when this civilization ended, the third stage of this civilization followed. After the fourth, about 1000 AD, the Incas came up.
The Incas ruled over the largest politically connected kingdom of all of ancient America. They established an empire that would equal the size of Europe, from Portugal to Moscow, a vast political and geographical empire.
They were very special in different ways. They did not develop a writing and reading system, which poses a problem for historians, archaeologists, anthropologists, because they can not explain how these people could achieve this high level of culture and organization without a writing system. Another important aspect of the Incas is how they organized this huge political empire, how they were able to solve problems that still bother us today.
The Incas were the only society in human history where there was neither hunger nor poverty. This was apparently possible because of the cultivated system of reciprocity and redistribution. Reciprocity is the basic principle of give and take, which is still known today as the Incas Ayni.
Question: What are the differences between Maya, Inca and Aztec?
The Maya were an ancient civilization in Central America, they invented a writing and reading system, so we have records of their history. The Mayan civilization ended around the 9th century. The Aztecs then took power, creating the empire found by the Spaniards. The big difference between the Incas and the indigenous peoples of Central America is the so-called ethos, that is the general orientation of culture.
The ethos of the Incas was oriented towards agriculture. They were mainly farmers who concentrated on the production of food. The obligation of the Inca state was to guarantee a certain amount of harvests every year in order to have sufficient food supplies and to be able to meet the needs of the entire population.
The two others in Central America, the Maya and the Aztecs, were warriors. Of course, they focused on the means of destruction as we Western civilizations do today. That is the main difference.
Question: Where are the differences to shamanism?
The term shamanism is currently used as a consequence of the wave of interest in spiritual traditions in another form. Organized religions are not considered shamanism, but shamanism is used as a general collective term for all sorts of spirituality that is not under the authority of organized religions.
Of course, like other traditions, the Inca’s ‘began’ with shamanism, but they developed something much more cultivated, which is called the Paqo way. Today we call it spiritual mystical art.
In the course of time, this mystical system of the Incas, which on the one hand is very simple but on the other very cultured and efficient, has been further refined. It has its roots in shamanism, but it is essentially more complex. It is a very complex spiritual teaching in connection with a highly developed civilization.
Question: You have this system of the seven levels of consciousness. Could you please elaborate on that?
Juan: This is very important in the Inca teaching, because in the beginning we found Qanchis Pata Ñan, the path of the seven stages. Thanks to some friends we found out that these seven stages are not only represented in the Andean tradition.
For example, in the book of the Apocalypse, we find them as the seven virtues, and also in the system of Gurdjieff, a Russian mystic, “the seven men of Gurdjieff”; and in the case of Teresa de Ávila, the Spanish mystic of the sixteenth century. As a result of these comparative studies, we believe we are dealing with a protocol for the development of human consciousness that is universal.
The version of the Incas is one of them, but you can also find a version in the Christian tradition, in the Orthodox tradition, in the Chinese tradition, etc.
As a result, we get techniques to initiate the natural process of human consciousness expansion.
Question: What spiritual exercises do you do for this? Do you meditate? Do you do rituals?
Juan: As far as we know, there are three major spiritual practices in the world.
One is prayer that leads to Judaism, Islam, Christianity,
The second would be meditation, which belongs to India, China, and Tibet, to the Far East,
And obviously there is a third way, ritual, the Native American from Alaska to Patagonia.
What the Inca’s exercise is not meditation directly, but rather a combination of these 3 processes to connect directly with what we call Kausay (living energy).
What we particularly liked about the Andean tradition is it’s simplicity. Other traditions use complicated processes such as positions, breathing exercises, etc. But in our tradition, all you need to do is use your focused intent to direct this living energy.
Ivan: Our tradition is that we all come to this world in a form of elemental people, we traditionally call it the zero level. According to our tradition, every single person on the zero level comes to this world, including the great masters of human history.
Every single person comes to this world with enormous potential, which can be developed in the course of your life. We call this potential the Inca seed or the seed of enlightenment.
When you practice these techniques of connection with the energies and let the energies flow through you, the energies of the environment will come into contact with your human potential. They will initiate the process of your development, which will naturally help you to progress and outgrow the zero level or the natural state of man into each of these levels. According to tradition, there are seven possible levels of development for humans.
The sixth level is enlightenment. When you reach the sixth level, you will have developed what is meant by enlightenment.
According to our tradition, it is open to everyone and it is possible for everyone. It only depends on how much your human potential comes into contact with the energies and the factors that are in your immediate surroundings.
All of this is based on the concept of Ayni, the principle of reciprocity, and your development depends on how much you can and can interact with the reality around you, other people, and the natural environment included.
Question: You’re talking about teachers and the line of teachers. Do you have a continuous line of teachers that can be traced back? How far can you trace her?
The Q eros, the descendants of the Incas, can trace their lineage back to the 10th century. Inkari was the first Inca in the 10th century and from then on there is an uninterrupted continuation of Masters up to Don Andres Espinoza, who ran the last Paqo school in the Andes that Juan attended. An almost 1000-year-old, uninterrupted student succession.
By the time Juan started learning, there were at least five masters, now there is only one. Juan was, as far as we know, the only Peruvian Mestizo (the only white man) who had ever visited the only official school for the Andean tradition; this was led by Don Andres Espinoza in Q’ero Nation. For the Incas, this school had the same reputation as Harvard or Yale for us in the West. Juan went to this school to learn these spiritual teachings. The Q’ero Indians are now trying to regain their knowledge and therefore come to Juan and ask him about the knowledge and the initiations. The interest on the side of the Q’eros is great, but the training in the old way takes about 35 years.
Juan and Ivan teach us Westerners this in a week because our Western thinking is based on logic. We have ways to describe, explain, and abstract knowledge, but the knowledge of Andean people is based on perception. This means that the teacher shows you something and you will repeat it until you finally realize what he wanted to tell you. It takes a lot of time to gain the knowledge. Our ability to think is very strong and their ability to perceive is very strong – now, when we combine these two skills, we will get a big picture and that is the idea of the tradition.
Ivan: We talked about steps. According to our tradition, today’s global level of development of consciousness reaches a maximum of the fourth level. I mentioned earlier that every person is born in the zero stage. We start there and move on to the higher levels of consciousness. Of course it looks like a pyramid in the end. A huge number of people are at the zero level and few reach the higher levels. According to our tradition Our world today works on the third level.
In the third stage, the view of reality is basically black and white, it is divided into good or bad, it is a dual understanding of the world.
But the tradition says that the greatest leaders of humanity of our time are on the fourth level. We mentioned the Dalai Lama, you can also call Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela or Mother Teresa of Calcutta. The most advanced personalities of our time are capable of understanding what we mentioned before: that the factor that carries the entire world is only one. We call it God, but it has other names too.
This is the current state
The most advanced humans reach the fourth stage and from there they are able to do the rest. We believe in our tradition that the possibility of developing to even higher levels of consciousness is possible!
This will not be new to humanity, because in ancient times some people had already developed these qualities. At the present time, the analysis of tradition is that we do not currently have these higher qualities. But we are at a point where we can expect the higher qualities to emerge again in the human race, as has already happened in the past.
Question: According to the Inca tradition, a new age is breaking, could you explain that more?
Juan: Yes, that’s what we call the Taripay Pacha. In the tradition, there is something similar to an overview of human history as a spiral. So far we have travelled through 3 levels, the last having 3 within that.
This 3rd level of the 3rd level is the aeon that has already begun, and it will be the time of the people meeting again, rejoining in the sense that we will be able to recognize each other as sons and daughters of God, and as human beings who carry the same dignity and the same potential. We will honor each other in the same way as we honoured past emperors.
According to tradition, this gate is open since 2012 and we are now in Taripay Pacha. Time for the emergence of higher levels of consciousness.
Question: So there are some similarities to the dawning Aquarian age in Western occultism?
Juan: Yes, the Aquarian Age and the Mayan Prophecy say that we are nearing the end of this calendar and that the future will be totally new. The Hopi tradition says that we will move into fifth humanity. I believe that the Hopi tradition is the same as the Incas.
This level will, from our point of view, unleash the psychological collective force of people, and of course it can create the conditions for a new age. The leap in consciousness means that a new religious regime and a new political regime can emerge.
Ivan: As we go back to more personal matters on a smaller scale, we see the practical practices of the tradition designed in such a way that you can begin to develop yourself in an intimate way.
You will develop more power and a healthier way of being in relation to your life problems and challenges of everyday life.
By using the exercises and techniques of tradition, you naturally initiate the personal process of growth. The consequences of this will initially be to improve your relationships with the people around you. That will be the basis for change in our society, for changes begin with the individual and extend to the higher spheres of human interaction.
But everything starts with ourselves and how we see and understand the world. The tools we use to explain the world are also the means by which we can solve everyday problems, master our challenges in life and grow spiritually and develop our personal qualities.
To give an idea of what the Incas built:
They built an empire larger than the Roman Empire and had a similarly good infrastructure of streets and buildings. The Romans needed more than 400 years for this construction, and the Incas built this in just 90 years.
They knew neither money, nor could they read and write, nor had they invented the wheel, i.e. everything had to be carried. But nevertheless, they achieved all this in 90 years!
This can give a good idea of how spirituality can support people’s work & development.
